I’m not very keen on long rows of adjuster holes that make a strap look like it was made for no-one in particular. The upshot of that is that I keep the 'default' adjustment range to about six inches by using two extra sets of holes spaced at one-and-a-half inches either side of the 'home' mid-point length.
My standard adjusters are buckles, (which I have a little more to say about here), although I have a horse-bridle type 'hook-billet' system that I'm developing a design around.
