The Argument for Straplocks

On a new strap, putting it onto standard strap-buttons is normally a bit awkward. The leather hasn't deformed yet and it needs to be flexed about to get the buttons through - much as with a new cotton shirt or blouse.

After a while, the material wears in and hardly needs a touch to slip on and off.
That's when you're in trouble.

OK, on your blouse or shirt the worst that might happen is a moment of unintended eroticism.
If your strap gets a bit free and easy, your guitar's on the deck.

Straplocks can't just slide out because they have a separate clip that tightens onto the leather.

The 'deck' is the floor, for you non-seagoing nations)
